After graduation, Mike bought a Dodge and drove his core group of friends across the country. It was meant to be a literary and hiking trip ending with a month of mountain climbing in Alaska. Unfortunately, the group only made it to San Francisco before they ran out of gas money, leaving the adventurers stranded.
Mike moved to the southwest where he worked on water issues for the Department of Agriculture.
