First Edition with on the title page missing on later issues and 8pp of adverts at the rear of the volume. The front free endpaper has a little pull to it and bears a neatly inked previous owner inscription. The binding is a little cocked.

But a better example of this lovely book sans dust jacket would be hard to find.. Original red cloth, gilt titles and device illustration of Alice on Front in circle holding a pig and cat decoration to the rear. Black end-papers [minor cracks].
Spine darkened as often but a nice clean with fresh clean and crisp contents. No inscriptions but a small owners stamp to the verso of the frontis. Tight, bright, and unmarred. Printed paper wrappers, postbound. Limited unnumbered edition of 10, this being an AP. The book illustrates the story using only typographic symbols and geometric elements. As the story becomes more fanciful and wild so does the design of the book. Bound by Whitman Bennett of New York. Small bookplate of the writer and poet Eugene Field on front pastedown, and a handwritten notation on the rear flyleaf that this volume came from the library of Eugene Field, and signed by his son Eugene Field II.
Spine a bit sunned, very minor wear to extremities, near fine. James Graham, Bookseller Published: Micawber Fine Editions,, Small quarto, about 10 inches tall, in blue cloth stamped in gilt with inlaid illustration and title on cover. Illustrated by 17 color plates, 5 including the frontis on plain paper and 12 on coated paper. A wonderful fine press production of the perhaps the most imaginative fantasy in the English language. This includes an extra suite of plates housed in a folder fronted by the frontis illustration. Included is the publisher's custom clamshell box that includes a slot for the suite of plates that can be viewed through beveled opening, and the spine title on an inlaid brass plate.
The box has the stamp of the the maker on the inside spine.

The box, the book and suite of plates are flawless. Original red cloth with gilt lettering on the spine with triple ruled spine edges. Triple ruled borders to both boards. With gold vignettes, Alice and the pig baby on the front and the Cheshire cat on the rear within triple ruled gilt roundels.. Forty-two illustrations by Tenniel, 5. A very good copy, Externally only a little rubbed at the corners and spine ends, and a few marks to the cloth, overall very little wear to the cloth which is mainly quite sound and clean with gilt lettering and decorations all quite bright.

Soiled and torn lacking most of the flap plus small part of front no loss of text.
The notoriously fragile deluxe issue in flexible gilt stamped burgundy leather ; top edge gilt, with silk marker; worn and scuffed at edges; spine unevenly repaired with minor loss at head, and leaning slightly to left. Endpapers lightly browned at margins from binder's glue leaching through; upper blank margin of p.

Save for a small snag at to head of spine, a fine, bright copy of the wrapper issue not often found in collector's condition. There is another, perhaps later, issue in stiff grey printed wrappers. This one a little age-toned, with burgundy buckram spine slightly worn at head.
